About Landon

Landon Patrick Smith was born on June 5, 1995 with Spina Bifida, a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. This diagnosis may have taken the use of his legs from him, but it didn’t make him “different” then any other boy.

With a spirit far more mature than his tender years, Landon’s outlook on life was colored with a rainbow of optimism, and his heart was kept full with the love of his family and friends. He showed his zest for life early doing headstands and army crawling through the house! The Smith family knew they had a very determined, very special boy!

During his 17 years, he faced many medical challenges and met them all with strength, determination and a smile and giggle that was infectious even in the most grave circumstances. His sense of humor, and his “Landonisms” brought smiles to everyone.

An avid baseball fan, Landon dreamed of hitting a Grand Slam, rounding the bases and sliding into home plate for a game win, being on a team and seeing his beloved New York Yankees play. This dream was never realized due to Landon’s passing on June 3, 2013. With your help Landon’s dream and legacy will be continued in our community.
